When developing your procedural networks in Houdini, it is often advantages to keep performance in mind, to make your procedural systems run faster and to find bottlenecks in your networks. Houdini provides us with the Performance monitor to handle these kinds of profiling tasks and its pretty easy to use.
So I went and made a video about the general process of using the perf monitor and how you might go about using it for your own projects. This all started when one of the Indie-Pixel Discord members asked me how to use the performance monitor. So I said I would make a video about it, and here we have it! :-)
I have to admit that I don't use it all that often but here and there. Its a great way to see where your HDAs are the slowest and gives you insight as to how you might go about to optimize them to speed things up. If you'd like to learn more about using the Performance monitor you can access the Houdini Documentation for the Performance Monitor here.
I like making these Houdini Basics videos as they serve as a nice video guide to using Houdini from the ground up, as the Houdini Documentation can be confusing at times and might leave you with more questions than you started with. Let me know if there are any other Houdini Basic videos you'd like to see and Ill add them to the queue! Thanks so much! :-)
